The Abdul Majeed family’s ancestral home at No. 585, Peradeniya Road, Katukale, Kandy became a place where family unity and generosity flourished.

A home. A family. A lasting purpose.
Our association grew from the care shared within a family home in Kandy. That spirit continues to connect us across generations and borders.
THE HOUSE OF PEACE
Where it all began.
The roots of Dar Us Salam reach back to 1917 and the ancestral home of the Abdul Majeed family in Kandy. Long before the association took formal shape, the family shared a commitment to helping one another.
When the family moved to Gatambe in 1977, their new home became known as Dar Us Salam: “The House of Peace”. It was here that Mr. A. M. M. Fareed, affectionately known as “Kandy Appa”, brought together a dedicated group to respond to the difficulties facing the family.
Their purpose was clear: to assist family members in times of need, encourage kindness and strengthen the bonds between them.

To provide assistance during medical emergencies, support education and help with financial challenges, while nurturing strong family bonds as a foundation of unity and support.

The House of Peace
The family moved to Deveni Rajasinghe Mawatha in Gatambe, Kandy. The home was named Dar Us Salam, meaning “The House of Peace”. Under Mr. A. M. M. Fareed’s leadership, the association took on a structured form.
A renewed commitment
On 25 October, the association restructured to better meet the family’s changing needs, inspired by the discussions of Marhoom M. F. M. Murshid.
Guiding the next generation
Mr. M. L. M. Abdul Salam served as President, Mr. S. M. H. M. S. Abdul Cader as Vice President and Mr. A. A. M. Jiffry as Advisor to the Board.
Continuing the work
Mr. M. F. A. Riyas Fareed was elected President and Mr. M. R. A. Aaqil Vice President, with family unity and collective generosity at the heart of their outlook.
Carrying our purpose forward
The office bearers, Executive Committee and Sub Committee continue the association’s tradition of family service.

Mr. Mumthaz Hassen, who was in Kuwait at the time, coordinated support between family members overseas and those in Sri Lanka under Mr. Fareed’s leadership.
The 2022 restructuring drew on the guidance of Mr. M. F. A. Riyas Fareed, Mr. M. L. M. Abdul Salam, Mr. M. F. A. Siraj Samsudeen, Mrs. Mazaya Zubair and Mr. M. F. Ilham Ahamed.
